You should be listening to Bon Iver

Bon Iver made a huge impact on the 2008 musical scene with the release of “For Emma, Forever Ago” a haunting little acoustic gem with raw emotional power.  A limited number of copies, (500), were released independently in July of 2007.  The album was recorded in a cabin deep in the Wisconsin woods.  Early in 2009, he released “Blood Bank” a four song EP that compliments the style of his debut but manages to distance itself enough to be a separate piece of work.

For those of you who are fans of the movie “Twilight” and “New Moon” you might recognize his duet “Roslyn” with St. Vincent from the “New Moon” soundtrack.

His music is a gentle combination of moving melodies, warm, gentle guitar, and his falsetto.  The ethereal sound of his voice and the stark instrumentation that accompanies his music provides a lush sound.

The one noticeable departure to his music is “Woods” from “Blood Bank”.  He incorporates some form of digital effect to his voice and layers it with synthesized vocalized harmony.  It kind of has a “Frampton Comes Alive” vibe to it. Oddly enough, it works.

So, check out Bon Iver and let me know what you think.

Bon Iver’s music is available on iTunes and www.boniver.org

 Great music awaits!
